With You in the Waiting

My husband, Peter and I just moved to Colorado to join Signpost Inn this past March. When people ask us what we will be doing in ministry, I find it hard to explain. In one sense, we are not doing “anything.” We are not fixing anything tangible like homelessness or hunger. Yet, in another sense we are doing everything Jesus has asked us to do, being with and supporting others in their season of waiting, their crossroads of life until he returns.

Jesus’ last words to his disciples before his ascension were, “...And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20 ESV).

Last words carry extra weight. So, why did He choose these particular last words? And what do they mean for disciples today, practically?

Here is a thought: what if Christ was and is saying “let my with-ness that I have shared with you here on earth be your very witness to those you meet. My job is to have all the authority over heaven and earth, your job is to go do exactly what I did and be present with others. And I will be present with you.”

This is what Peter and I will be doing. We are accepting Jesus’ invitation to trust him while we practice simply being with others. I hope you’ll join us!
