Am I Crazy? Why I Left My 9-5 and Started Working at Signpost Inn

Soo…I have some big news. I started a new job as the Operations and Community Coordinator for Signpost Inn.
A few months ago, Signpost Inn reached out to ask if I would be interested in joining them as a staff member. I was instantly ecstatic, because working for Signpost Inn means getting to do, and support others in doing, things that I am really passionate about.
The mission of Signpost Inn is to walk with you through the chaos of life. We want to help you lift your gaze and sustain your attention on Jesus' loving presence, and we do this by creating welcoming spaces, thoughtful resources, and offering wise and compassionate guidance. This makes me excited, because I have met so many people who are weary of the rat race. Our society has led us to believe that if we’re not at work, or working out, or working on ourselves constantly, there’s something wrong with us. Even those of us who call ourselves Christians fall into this. And there’s more…
I’ve met a lot of people who see God essentially as a bad boyfriend. If they don’t do everything exactly how he wants them to, when he wants them to, there will be serious repercussions. Their needs and emotions and feelings aren’t important at all; the only thing that matters is keeping the “man-child upstairs” happy. If you’re like me, you’ve probably believed this too, at least a little bit. We might not refer to God in those terms, but sometimes we view him as this egotistical being/person that could cut us off forever if we make one wrong move.
So what changed for me? Jesus came to me, and taught me about himself. As I meandered around the pastures and woods behind the farm where I grew up in Pennsylvania, Jesus showed me that he was gentle and kind, and that he cared about the emotions I was pretending not to have. What makes me so excited about getting to work for Signpost Inn is that this is exactly what we want to do for other people. Maybe that’s by getting out in nature at Signpost Inn’s Spring Retreat and being reminded of the beauty that our Creator has made for us to delight in. Maybe it’s having a compassionate ear to listen to you during a spiritual direction session and say, “yeah, I’ve been there, too.” We want to demonstrate the gentleness and kindness of Jesus by embodying him through our care for anyone who interacts with us.
I’m so excited to have the opportunity to interact with people’s stories on a soul level. By working with Signpost Inn, I help plan spring retreat, and make spiritual direction sessions happen. I assist in the creation, publishing, and promoting of resources that have been a breath of fresh air to my heart and soul. Best of all, I get to work with an incredible team to make all of this happen. If this is something that gets you excited as well, would you consider partnering with us through a recurring donation?
Please pray for the ministry of Signpost Inn, our staff, and the people we serve. We are all imperfect people, trying to model our perfect Savior, and some days, that’s really difficult. Thank you for being here, friends. May the Lord bless you and keep you always.
